VILLA ALFONSO

ABOUT ME

MY STORY

Villa Alfonso is a commitment to the traditional architecture of the area. It is actually a new house to be finished at the end of 2020 to be placed on the market in the summer of 2021. Its philosophy is a tribute and an enhancement of the typologies of the traditional architecture of the country houses of Fuerteventura. This L-shaped house is distributed on the first floor and a loft or "sobrao" on the upper floor, typical of the livestock farms in the north of the island. The Villa is located in the typical volcanic terrain of the landscape called "Malpais". It is a whitewashed house inside and out, with whitewashed furniture inside and with some rooms separated by curtains, in the traditional way, and made with the same fabrics used to make the skirts of the folkloric dresses of the Canary Islands.

HOUSE CONCEPT

The concept of the Villa is based on the houses of Fuerteventura's grandparents, when wooden furniture was hard to find and had to be brought from other islands due to the scarcity of wood on Fuerteventura. The most common solution was to make the furniture whitewashed, like the shelves and the kitchen. The garden is a dry garden of xerophilous plants that resist water stress, losing their leaves in periods of drought, keeping the water in the stems (succulent plants) and recovering them in the wettest periods of the year. These are endemic plants such as Taibabas, Veroles, Cardones, and some that have been introduced historically and are already part of the Majorero landscape, such as Tuneras and Aloes.
